Reflecting on 2016

2016 really has been one of the most exciting and amazing years for both Leigh-Ann and I. We thought we would share with you our top moments of 2016 so grab a cuppa as its going to be a long one!

Carys

2016 has been life changing and one of the most memorable of my life! I have achieved so much and am extremely grateful for all the amazing people in my life who have made the year so special.

Visiting beautiful New York

New York is my favourite city and I instantly fell in love with it when we visited over the Christmas and New Years period! It lived up to all my high expectations and I would do anything to do the exact same week all over again!

Getting engaged

Central Park ice rink in New York will always be the most special place!

Wedding planning

I am quite ahead with wedding planning! The date is set wedding venue booked and marquee all designed! Just the dresses for bride and bridesmaids and of course a few accessories.

Buying our first home

One of the biggest achievements of our year was buying our first home! We are finally starting to get it to the stage where it feels like home and am loving designing each room!

A new car

Graduating

Luna & Fleur

These beautiful ones have made the year such a special one!! They have become such an important part of our family and I can’t imagine my life without these gorgeous ones! You only have to see these pictures to fall in love with them! Nothing better than coming home to these bundles of happiness!!

Leigh-Ann

2016 really has been a year of dreams come true for me and I feel so so lucky. I can’t believe it all happened in one year! 2017 is going to be very quiet in comparison.

Getting engaged

Rome is my most favourite place in the world and Dodi took me there this year! It was my third time visiting this extraordinary city and I couldn’t have been more in my element. We visited all the great sights such as the Colosseum, Vatican, Trevi Fountian and walked for miles and miles! On our last night Dodi took me to the beautiful orange gardens which overlooked Rome. I had never been to this part of Rome before and it was truly magical. You could smell the oranges as you entered the gardens. We sat on a wall, in a secluded area and when the sun set Dodi proposed!!

Cuba

I feel so lucky that I also had the opportunity to visit Cuba in 2016 and wow what an experience. Dodi’s Dad got married on the beach, surrounded by family with the most beautiful setting imaginable. We visited so many incredible places including waterfalls, orchid gardens, a cigar farm and most amazingly Havana. We also went to the Buena Vista Social Club on the evening of the wedding and traveled there in a Chevy! So much fun. We had so many laughs and created so many memories on this trip and I loved getting to know my Boyfriend’s family (my future family) more.

Our first home together

The day before we flew off to Cuba we received the keys to our first home which seemed very surreal. After saving hard for 5 years and moving back in with our parents walking into our new home and for the first, second and third time (extremely jet lagged) it didn’t feel real and to be honest still doesn’t feel quite real. We are now settled in and just need to hang some artwork and a mirror to make our home complete. Next up, we need to start the wedding planning but this can wait until 2017!

My beauty business

My most difficult, rewarding and tiring 2016 venture! I was determined to kick start my business this year and started by completing my nail technician course early this year and after a few months I found I had regular and returning customers. To me this was such an achievement and I have since trained in brows and individual eyelash extensions. This is still a project on the side of my full time job and my goal for 2017 is to become more experienced and confident in these  new treatments.

What were your 2016 highlights? Let us know below.

Lots of love

Blogmas: The Christmas Tag

I love having a read of a good Christmas Tag and love participating in them too so this is our Christmas Tag! If you have a christmas Tag post then please let us know 🙂

Q1: Whats your favourite Christmas film?

Carys: There are so many different ones that I love however my favourite by far has to be home alone 2 lost in New York! Whenever I think of Christmas this is the film that instantly come to my mind! I love everything about it, the Christmas music, the comedy, Christmas scenery & of course beautiful New York! I got engaged last Christmas time in New York and just before christian proposed we had walked around Central Park which features so heavily in the film so of course every time I watch it, it reminds me of that!

Leigh-Ann: My fave and probably the least original choice is Love Actually! I am a bit of a rom com, feel good lover and this just ticks all the right boxes for me. It’s totally the right mix of humor, romance and heart ache and really gets me into the festive spirit.

I also seem to pull out the Twlight movies at Christmas time, even though they are not particularly Christmassy they still manage to make me feel all wintery and cosy.

Q2: Real Christmas tree or fake?

Carys: For me it’s always a real tree! Every year since I was little and still to this day buying our real tree each year has always been a tradition, so the smell and look of a real tree is something that is really special for me!

Leigh-Ann: I have to agree with Caz and go for real, the whole going to choose a tree symbolises the start of Christmas for me.

Q3: What is your go to festive makeup look?

Carys: My festive look always always involves some kind of gold! I love anything gold and glittery but also love to add a little bit of red too. Makeup wise I usually go for a really shimmering gold and brown eye and sometimes a red lip if I’m feeling confident 😉

Leigh-Ann: I usually opt of a bold look as I have lots of time to experiment on Christmas Day. I love dark eyes and if I’m lucky enough to receive any new eye shadows for Christmas I’ll 100% be prioritising them. So in a nutshell I don’t really have a specific festive look.

Q4: Christmas day dress up or comfy and casual?

Carys: Even though I love my comfy casuals and Christmas pjs! I love the feeling of getting dressed up on Christmas Day-I always have and just think it makes the day that little more special!

Leigh-Ann: I stay in my PJ’s whilst unwrapping presents in the morning and then get ready and dressed. It’s a great excuse to try on and use new clothes and makeup.

Q5: What is your Christmas eve tradition?

Carys: Christmas Eve is actually my favourite day of the year and I actually prefer it to Christmas Day itself! I think it’s the whole atmosphere of it, Christmas in my family is such a special time of year, we all sit down and with a lovely meal and then have tea by the fire and watch a good Christmas film together!

Leigh-Ann: Honestly, my tradition over the last few years has been meeting up with lots of old school friends (it’s like a mini reunion) and having one to many down our  local pub.

Q6: What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Carys: Family time and the atmosphere of Christmas! I love that everyone is together and having a lovely time!

Leigh-Ann: Definitely spending quality time with the Family and having a bit of chill time.

Q7 what is on your Christmas wishlist?

Carys: Anything beauty related but in particular Becca Champagne pop and anything from By Terry!! Also as a typical girl anything jewellery or fashion related!!

Leigh-Ann: The Anastasia foundation sticks in mink and banana are on my wish list! I have heard these are amazing for contouring.

8. Your favourite Christmas jumper?

Carys: I currently have 2 that I love, both of which Christian bought me! A navy and red jumper from Next which I love, it has bells on it! I also have a red which is super soft and from Fat Face!

Leigh-Ann: Oh honestly I’ve never owned a great Christmas jumper. I always end up panic buying the last ones left in the shop! I really want a lovely one though.

9. Favourite Christmas Tree Decoration?

Blogmas: The Beauty Advent Calendar

It wouldn’t be December without the run up to christmas with a good old advent calendar! Every year without fail I receive a chocolate advent calendar from my parents (despite being 28 years old-this is still something that continues) and I become the biggest kid around as I’m always so excited when I get it and open that first door!

This year however I was extremely lucky as I was also treated to a beauty advent calendar! Now beauty advent calendars have always been something that I have lusted over and at the moment the beauty market is absolutely flooded with them, each year getting bigger and better than the previous. Each year I have never been able to justify spending the money on such an item but as this one was given to me as a little treat my excitement was to the extreme!

I have the M&S beauty advent calendar and it looks so festive!!! Sporting the traditional christmassy colours this beauty contains so many amazing beauty brands inside that I can hardly contain my excitement-Christian is keeping a close eye to make sure that only one box a day is opened!!

I will keep you posted in our vlogmas of the little treasures that are hidden within each box but I have to say I was so surprised at the different brands contained within this!

Blogmas: Our Christmas Tree Reveals

If you keep up To date with out little blog you will know Carys and I are very similar, we are cousins who both got engaged this year and purchased our new homes with our lovely partners and I am sure this isn’t a shock but we both absolutely LOVE  Christmas! This Christmas is especially exciting for us both as it’s our first Christmas in our new homes so we have been busy purchasing Christmas baubles, lights, ornaments and who knows what else. We thought it would be nice to share with you what we have been buying, it may even give you a little inspo if you’re after a few new Christmassy bits.

Leigh-Ann

Ahh, I spent 2 hours in the Range and spent £80 on baubles and Christmas lights! They had such a wide range of Christmas products and I felt there really was something there for everyone. Such a great variety of baubles and so many different colours and styles; reds, greens, golds, silver and white. I was like a kid in a candy store. They have very traditioanl styles, along with more contemporary pieces. We went for a white and silver theme as we felt this would look the best with our white and grey home decor. Prices at the Range are very resaonable too making the trip even more fun!

Carys

Every year getting the tree is something we always make a weekend of!! We have our own little tradition; we head out for breakfast super early and then visit the same beautiful country house that sells the most amazing real trees! This year as we have Luna and Fleur we decided to go for a tree with softer needles and one that doesn’t drop its needles too much. I also love the smell of a real christmas tree it just adds to the atmosphere of christmas in the house! Once we have picked out our beautiful tree it is off to purchase a few pretty christmas decorations and baubles. This year we went for metallic colours on our tree, picking golds, coppers/bronze shades and pink and rose gold shades and I couldn’t be happier with it!! I always go for warm white lights on the tree as I think they always look super cosy.

I thought I would show you some of my favourite baubles that I have started to collect in the most recent year! One of my faves is this gorgeous message in a bottle which I picked up last year from Lisa Angel! It contains a beautiful scroll with gold flecks!

This pink heart was my choice last year from Notcutts and I love it! Its a rose gold shade and looks so pretty dangling on this years tree.

This beautiful hanging crystal chandelier is also from Lisa Angel! I received this as a gift last year and my friend knows me so well because I absolutely love it!!

Again another fave from Notcutts, this bronze and pink sparkling beauty looks gorgeous hanging from the tree. I love the diamond shape and the glitter pigments reflect the light beautifully!

Where have you been purchasing your Christmas decor from this year? What style are you going for? What shops have been a hit or miss for you? We would love to hear, comment below or tweet us your pics @BeauTeagenes
